What causes “Gluteal Amnesia” ?
Prolonged sitting> 5-7 hours / poor posture in standing. Standing in sway back can lead to an inability to hold one’s beltline at a position parallel to the floor and this is the first sign of gluteal amnesia. This Gluteal amnesia and lack of centring of the hip in the socket can cause a scouring motion and overload of the anterior labrum.
So what do you need to be able to do correct this-
-Loads of isometrics of the gluts in sitting and standing.
-Position the Pelvis on the Femur correctly and centred in the acetabulum- correcting the posture in standing, squatting and all loaded positions.
-Control sway back of the pelvis.
-Stop hip hanging laterally and posteriorly.
-Increase the control in Rectus abdomens- to control the pelvic position in a A/P direction.
Stop the sitting ….and start the tolerance to standing, building endurance and good posture in the lumbar spine, hip and pelvis.
